Vitros problem

The screen on my Vitros keeps shutting down intermittenly. what happens is the picture washes to a sky blue colour with white horizontal lines, then, it will either regain itself or switch off into standby.
Any comments?
I'm in discussions with the shop (TV&Video Direct), about a replacement cos I've had other problems with it too.

happens anytime, both terrestrial and DVD viewing. Can't watch more than 10 mins of TV before it shuts down.
Shop don't seem to want to replace, only had it for 6 months, its been sent away for repair already for a new power supply, then a non-working s-vid input, now this.

Have you checked that the Switch Off Timer hasn't been activated?

Other than that, the problem sounds serious enough. As you've had so many problems I would kick up a bit of a fuss to the Loewe Customer Services in Glasgow. Even though your contract is with the retailer, it would do no harm to make Loewe aware of your many problems within the past 6 months. The phone number is in the back of the manual and they have always been very efficient when I've dealt with them.

Let us know how you get on :).

I too have this problem. My Vitros does not go to standby as frequently as reported here, but it does go into standby for no apparent reason. No timers or any settings are enabled. The picture disappears first, leaving the sound for a few seconds, then goes to standby. Also, if I turn the TV completely off, sometimes when I turn it on, both red and green lights come on and click every 10 or so seconds and the screen does not come on at all! I have managed (so far, as it's only just started doing this the last day or so) to get it to come on after a while, but it's not a good sign. My hunch is that it's a software issue causing the fault. I am going to call Loewe for advice tomorrow, as I have only had the set some 17 months and have a 3 year warranty with the dealer. Aaaaggghhh! After the problems I had with my Sony 28", I thought I had found a good replacement set! How wrong can you be ... :(

Just to update. Loewe have told me that it is a 'trip' type mechanism to stop the TV coming on if there is a fault, to prevent damage to the set. They also asked me if I bought the set in 2002 (which I did), guess there must be a line fault around this time. The service people are coming to collect it for repair on Monday! (it's Friday as I write this) Aaaggghhh :( no Sky, no Xbox, I didn't realise how much I relied on the TV!

As soon as I know the fault diagnosis I will post it here in case anyone else should ever need to know.

Hey - I've got a loewe aconda 93102 ZW and it trips into standby by itself every so often. I got it mid 2002, so do you think it is the same problem Digitalspirit had with his?

Thanks

(LATE REPLY, LOL). God knows mate, but i don't think it was the "transformer" as they told me, I don't think these TV's even have them, LOL. I thought I'd post here again to say that just over a year and a half the TV is going into standby again, but I am still able to turn it on. Once it lost the sound totally and had to be turned off then on again and another time the picture scrambled (much like a failing monitor does) before dropping to standby, yet I was able toturn it on again. It has been intermittently dropping to standby over the last three weeks, so I got the repair guys to collect it (though they reckon it could take a while as it's an intermittent problem). The dickheads managed to drop the set and snap part of the cabinet off, f***in' idiots. So now if it wasn't damaged, is sure is now! I've only had the TV two and a half years and I must say I'm not impressed with the longevity of the technology at all. Though credit to Loewe, they have offered to pay for parts (as the shop I bought it from have gone bust and my extended two year shop warranty is now void).

I will let you guys know what the problem is (if the people at the repair shop have the intelligence that is). I don't hold out much hope if they can't even carry a TV without dropping it though!!!

Well they phoned me today. Lose connection is the diagnosis this time, does that mean they didn't sort it properly last time, i guess i will never know. I also have to wait at least a week for the replacement cabinet to be sent from Germany :( but the upside is because they dropped it and tore my wallpaper they aren't charging me a penny "goodwill gesture". I never thought I'd be so happy to see my TV get dropped. LOL!

Great.

My Aconda's just switched itself into standby and is merrily clicking away trying unsuccessfully to turn itself back on.

Gonna have to watch a 14" portable for God knows how long 'til it's fixed. :thumbsdow

And guess what ? Got mine summer 2002...looks like there was definitely a dodgy batch.

Tell me about it fella! The 2002 batch are the weak link. I'm STILL stuck watching a tat 14" portable while they wait for my replacement cabinet from Germany! 2 weeks and counting now, I'm not a happy chappy :thumbsdow

Got my Aconda back today after being in the workshop for 16 days. The problem was a dry joint in the power supply apparently. Furthermore, they said they fitted some kind of safety protection upgrade as per Loewe guidelines for this model and year.

Had to do some minor tweaks in the service menu to correct rotation and trapezium....don't know if they might've nudged the tube or a magnet in there somewhere.

All in all they seem to have done a good job. Very relieved to have it back in good working order. Let's hope that's the last niggle for a very long time.
