bought a PC from PC world a year ago and it came with AOL installed, the icon on the bottom tack bar was annoying me today so i decided to uninstall the AOL programme. i uninstalled it and restarted but the icon is still there and if i click it it brings up a load of options about AOL and hints me to download the new version. Why would it still be there if i uninstalled it using the uninstall program in the control panel. i checked the install/uninstall program list and AOL is no longer on it. So went to mycomputer > program folders, and there is an AOL folder and AOL 9.0 VR folder.

why would they be there if i did uninstall, and why is the icon still on the task bar. is is safe to just delete those those folders and would this remove the icon. what would be the safest way to do this.

cheers

Uninstall

AOL is not in the uninstall/install list in the programs and features folder anymore, thats where i did the uninstall. the folder AOL 9.0 VR that remained in my computer> program files has uninstall package (aolunis_uk.exe)

if i run that would it do unistall it for good? is it safe?

Yes it should - but you should make sure afterwards that the registry entries for AOL is also removed - but don't do anything if you are not sure of what you are doing.

If you want you can

press windows key and r simultaneously -

type in regedit and click ok and click on continue

double click on H Key Local Machine and then look for Software

click on Software and look for AOL

Right click and select delete - delete

theses uninstallers go beyond just unistall they scan the whole computer and regestry also with you uninstalling it . it may be easyer for you to install aol crap then use that to uninstall it:thumbsup:
