Hi formation4,

While it is possible to change the decoder that VMC uses it's not an MS supported option (unlike the MCE2005 situation) and there are currently compatibility issues when doing so. If you want to experiment check out http://mediacenterexpert.blogspot.com/2006/07/vista-media-center-decoder-utility.html. The utility makes it easy to experiment without messing directly with the registry.

If you haven't already, make sure Vista is fully patched (including SP1) as there have been improvements to the MS decoders in a number of updates.

The 2400 should be fine for DVD playback. You won't get much advantage to upgrading it unless you're also looking for an HD playback solution.

Have you tried DVD playback with another application to compare results?

Cheers,

Wo0zy
