There actually seems to be some good DVD's in Virgin's 5 for £30 sale this week. I picked up Once upon a time in mexico, the hills have eyes, urban gothic series 1, stephen king's Rose Red and Once upon a time in the west special collector's edition.

I also saw Bad Boys 2, May, Terminator 3, Labyrinth Collector's Edition and obviously loads of others.

heh, i never really watch many movies from before i was born.. thought i'd give this one a try though, 30th on imdb huh, not bad. i suppose really it's higher than 30th, but the crappy swing voting they use means new films get right to the top really quickly and only slip over time. Don't think all 3 LOTR films really deserve to be in the top 10, although they are great.

In which case you are missing some of the greatest films ever made. Movie making masterpieces.

yeah but i generally like blockbusters rather than masterpieces, i'm sure there are a few exceptions (though can't really think of any) but i would much rather watch something like Armageddon or From Dusk Til Dawn than Citizen Kane or Gone With The Wind. Nothing against those films, but i generally like to watch movies to be excited not moved (see bored) - i probably have ADD or something ;)

Well those films were 'blockbusters' in there time and TBH newer blockbusters tend in general not to be remembered within a few years (obviously always afew exceptions)

However, I would never use Dusk till Dawn and Citizen Kane in the same comparison. Kane ranks consistently as probably one of the greatest films of all time.

Sounds like you like 'popcorn fodder blockbusters', each to their own. I don't mind them either on the odd occasion, but they are not what I call great movies.

Kane: Possibly the greatest script of all time. How brilliant is the opening 10 minutes also

A top 10 no doubt, up there with North By Northwest :smoke:

A great film is a great film, easily stands the test of time because quality is absolutely timeless. :)

I'm still looking forward to the Citizen Kane remake in colour, with Will Smith and J Lo and a happy ending where he's not really dead and everyone really likes him.

    And CGI and stuff.

Then I can finally bin that creaky old black & white version. :D

Sums it up really and I guess if there's a market then Hollywood are going to continue churning the same old remade and re-hashed rubbish.

    Sad but true :(
