Virgin Media VIP Package

Hello All,

I cancelled my Sky subscription just over a year ago, & have just used the equipment for FreeSAT. They have called constantly since trying to get back my business. I've shunned their advances to date but last night thought I'd give them a try to see what offers they had for me.

I've been told, on 2 seperate tries now, that there are no offers available to me as I'm calling them. I've been told to wait until their system next raises a cold call to me. It may be next week, it may be 6 months.

In the meantime, I've been looking at the Virgin Media VIP package. I've already got the phone & broadband - no complaints with either. The VIP upgrades both of these, gives a full TV subscription, a PVR for the living room & a seperate box for upstairs. Seems a great deal for the price.

Has anyone any experience with Virgin TV & the PVR system ?

Many Thanks, Gav :)

You would think so this being a Virgin forum ;)

You should do some reading in other threads but to summarise...

The V+ PVR is an awesome bit of kit and the 3 tuners is rather handy. Its had its bugs to iron out but we see much fewer complaints these days than say 6 months ago.

There is bugger all HD content on Virgin and thats very disappointing. We're constantly being promised more but itt seems we are losing more than we are gaining.

We've recently lost Sky's basic channels. No idea how this will be resolved or when.

On Demand is loved by some yet some are indifferent. Personally, I love On Demand and it probably makes up about 50% of my TV viewing! Check out Mad Donna's site to see whats available, http://www.maddonna.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/index.html

Just to add, from mayish (depending on where you are) onwards, the 10mb XL Broadband is supposed to be upgrading to 20mb download, with increased upload too :)

Virginmedia offer a moneyback guarantee http://allyours.virginmedia.com/money_back_guarantee.html .

I've always found their BB and phone service to be very reliable. I can't say the same for their TV service, but I think this often depends on where you live.

I would give them a try. When I cancelled I was given a full refund and offered a good retentions deal on my BB and phone package. So it shouldn't cost you a penny more if you decide it is not for you.

Having read through posts on this board, I think it's made my mind up that I won't bother with VM VIP. At least not until they sort things out with Sky, then I'll see what position you guys are in.

I've only got 1 day of holiday left until September so if things don't go well with the install or equipment I'm scuppered ! At least I've already got the Sky dish & a box they've told me can be instantly reconnected at any time.

Hi There

I have been an NTL/Virgin media customer for just over a year and recently upgraded to the VIP package, (XL Broadband, XL phone, V+ box with original box cabled through to play room, XL TV, reduced mobile calls and reduction on international calls PLUS Sky movies and Sky sports for free) for £85 as I thought it was great value.

The installation was at the start of April and was painless (although I was already a customer and my Broadband was already in my Play room so not much more cable needed) and most of the 35 minutes was taken up with the V+ box enabling.

I have used it for about two weeks now and it has done everything I have asked of it - it isn't too noisy (and mine is under a unit on the floor) and the menu is very easy to follow, the On Demand service will lose you days if you let it and the ability to record two channels and watch a third is excellent - so far none of my recordings have missed the start/end of a show as previously reported on the forums.

all in all it's only been two weeks but so far I can't believe I have done without it for so long....

Hope this helps!

I've been a broadband customer for about 6 years now and have never had any problems and always top speeds and a very stable service. Since I moved into this house I decided to cancel Sky and take up the tv service and love it. The fact that you can record 2 channels and watch another is excellent and the VOD keeps my girlfriend occupied.

My only gripe is that there is no match choice on football first. You have to watch whats on.
