The new identity will appear on air from 9 June at 9pm.

Virgin1 is also extending its hours on Freeview, launching a new +1 channel.

Virgin1's decor and theme will now be far more "Red".

Created by Virgin Media Television's recently appointed brand and marketing director Jeff Dodds and creative agency Red Bee Media alongside VMtv's in-house creative team, Red will express himself and engage with viewers through his own Facebook, Bebo, Twitter feeds and weekly downloadable musings on iTunes.

Red has been brought to life by Paul Jomain, the man behind PG Tips' Monkey, and aims to be a naughty, impish fun-filled character.

A new programme line-up will also accompany the make-over, including The Life and Times of Tim, Chuck (season 2), The Naked Office and Why Men Watch Porn, as well as the Jim Davidson one-off special So You Think I'm An A***hole, will be joining Red on Virgin1.

Why am I slightly nonplussed (V1+'d) by this?

I was hoping this "awesome" change that Branson was going on about in the advert would be Virgin1HD. Ha, should've known better :suicide:

I hope the current plasma-friendly translucent DOG isn't replaced by some red monstrosity that leaves retention on my screen. I will stop watching if so

Don't think I've ever watched Virgin1 and doubt whether I will ever watch 'Red'!

Its not totally useless. The second season of Chuck starts tonight at 9pm funnily enough and that is a fantastically good show if you like something reasonably light and amusing to unwind with. The new animated show at 10pm looks like it will be quite good too.
