    Evening good people
Just a really quick question, My wifes Aunt has asked me to fit her an aerial which is no problem. But I asked why all of a sudden. She explained that she is cancelling the whole virgin package inc phone.

Question is, can she use the Virgin box as a freeview box ?

    Thanks

My understanding from a quick Google is if you keep the phone and broadband (might be just phone) you get free view. If not you get nothing and I think they might ask for the box back......but don't quote me on that :)

Thanks, she is adamant that it all needs to go, Unfortunately her husband died last week and she really won't have the money. I am considering speaking to them for her and get a reduced package that I will pay for.
She has had the service for about 2 years I believe, so should be able to get something out of them, even if it is just very basic.

No once you cancel your virgin account they will send ziltch down the cable to the house and a v box can't run off a aerial.

Also they will require the box back. With virgin you do not own the box unlike sky.

I cancelled my Virgin account after nearly a million years of loyal service. They sent me a flat pack cardboard box with carriage paid and told me to put my Virgin box and router in it and return it.

They told me I would only have 3 months email access and they would delete that aswell. It's been 4 months and I'm still getting emails for free. HA HA HA - up yours Branson.

Ok thanks, I'll see what they can offer for a very basic package, if not too much then i'll pay it.
I did have Virgin once about 4 years ago, but kept my sky going luckily. had problems from day one and did not get what I signed up to on the phone, which strangely they could not recover the recording of....Long story short, I got out of the contract and they wanted the boxes back, but never offered to arrange this....Sold them on ebay a year later :smashin:

Back in 2009 cancelled my VM broadband and they didn't bother cutting it off for 2 years. Which was surprising, I think they've upped their game now though.
Back then they didn't bother asking for the modem or any of the equipment back (still have it), these days they do seem to request all equipment be returned.

This can be an advantage as you don't pay for repairs/replacement box with VM.
Unlike Sky who charge you to replace the box.

Virgin came to collect their boxes when we finished our custom with them, make sure they sign for it and leave you a copy. They tried to charge me £99.00, as they denied collecting, still waiting 6 years on, to respond to the video and sound recording on the front door intercom, I sent them; strange!

If the TV doesn't have built in Freeview (any vaguely modern set will) a Freeview box can be bought for very little money.

Yep very true, it does have it built in but I just didn't want to run a new cable :smashin:
I will call them this weekend and see what they can do.
