I haven't received an email like that, but I only have a few short videos on Vimeo nowadays. A couple years ago I used Vimeo to embed a video on one of my websites and had all sorts of problems not long after signing up for a paid package.
I first discovered that it was dramatically slowing down page loading on my site, because they were making callouts to wretched 3rd party servers for analytics that I couldn't care less about. This affected page ranking and sales, so for that reason alone I wasn't too impressed and there was no way to switch it off.
Not long after they implemented some awful setup that was supposed to detect the user's bandwidth and supply an appropriate quality version, but in practice the forums were full of people screaming about only seeing lowest quality resolution for the first ten seconds, even on super fast 100mbps connections and it was a mess.
The whole experience left me a bit wary of 3rd party video options, so I started self hosting, but I appreciate it's not ideal for everybody.
