Received this yesterday, but only got to play for 5 mins due to the Canterbury Tales and being dragged out to the pub.

Interesting looking game, the intro is a little long with some dodgy looking cel shading (IMO), however the gameplay looks to be very nice, I am quite excited about sitting down with it properly.

It looks like it harks to the old skool beat em ups with enough twist to make it fresh :)

Will post a proper mini-review once I have played it properly this weekend, however intial thoughts are pretty positive!

Its excellent but very hard. There is a real skill involved in winning, I think its superb.

I have a US cube, so cannot answer the freeloader question.

I have played a bit over the weekend. Dam this game is very good, the screenshots or descriptions do not do it justice. The gameplay is very original, and the difficulty is just right. You will be scratching your head on sections trying to find out what to do, this game captures the old skool feeling of running back and forth through a level trying to find what you have missed. When you do find it you will sit there and wonder why it took you so long as it was obvious.

Bosses are great, really tough fights, that will seem impossible, but once you learn the trick for beating an enemy, it becomes a lot easier.

I feel it is slightly let down with the cut scenes, personally I find them a little boring.

Definately one of the best games of the year.

It works fine with Freeloader. I got my copy yesterday (complete with Viewtiful Joe hat!!! ), and, although it took a long time to prise my other half away from playing Skies of Arcadia, for the short time I was playing it, I loved it!

Is there any way I can actually save the game??

I just got passed the bit where you have to go into Slow mode to get the bus passed the gap (which is very far and hard into episode 2) and died. I then found out I had to start from the beginning of episode 2 and ain't at all happy about it. If this is what happens then it's gonna stay in the box for a loooooong time! :(

You can only save at the save points.

Make sure you are playing Kids, do not play Adult until you have played through the game once on kids. Adult is really for experienced players who know all the tips and tricks in a level.

Sorry about the 'mad' thread. Just got carried away with the game.

I'll start again on Kids mode and go through the game. Then have another go at adult.

I love it too much to let it 'stay in the box for a loooooong time!'

Hehehe, I played adult first, I thought it was going to be some kind of gore or swearing setting. After getting my butt whooped multiple times I thought I would try kids. I then realised how difficult the game is.

I have currently got to the replica of Joe, I am not sure how far through the game this is, but it is extremely difficult!

Well, it's the age old matter of my stupid pride getting the better of me again, but I've been playing this game through on adult and I absolutely refuse to change now and play on kids (yes, I'm an idiot  )

Saying that though, once you've reached the first save point and had chance to upgrade things do get easier (not much though) - one thing I HAVE noticed, is that if you get loads of points doing cool combos then die and retry and repeat for hours (I'm not joking! ) then eventually you'll have amassed enough points to buy most of the good moves quite early on in the game - it's a pain in the ass, sure, but it does make things easier in the long run.

I wasn't going to buy this game. I didn't like the look of it and couldn't see what all the fuss was about. Then I saw someone playing it and was sold straight away :)

It really is a case of 'they don't make them like this anymore' - it looks so simple when you first see it, but then once you realise that there's so much subtetly and depth to the gamplay and the scoring it becomes SOOOOOO addictive.

In fact, just mentioning it makes me want to skive off work and go pull off some moves :D

I defeated 'Another Joe' last night... geez, what an annoying boss!! Good episode though. ;)

So far, i've found kids mode a little bit easy, but maybe that's cause i'm used to adult mode, i'm expecting it to be hard. I'm guessing it get's harder now though.

That would be my one criticism of this game, the difference between adult and kids mode is huge. I started off on adult and gave up when I couldn't get past the helicopter. Played Kids mode and I'm breezing through it. Could have done with an 'adolescent mode' or an 'OAP mode'.
