    Hello there

I have looked through the forum but not really found an answer...

I'm looking to buy the new Panasonic PX60 and I am currently deliberating as to whether to get the 37" or the 42".

We sit about 7 feet away from the screen. My concern is that 42" PQ on SD may not be too clever. We watch quite a lot of Freeview and although I don't expect it to be fantastic, I don't want it to look terrible. This is my thinking towards buying the 37".

However, wher I want the unit to excel is for watching films on DVD. I really want the top PQ and I also want to be 'enveloped' by the big screen. 50" is way too big for the room as I want the TV to complement the room, not overpower it. Therefore, my thinking leads towards the 42".

Can anyone offer any advice, or am I just worrying far too much about those extra 5 inches(!)?

I´m also waiting for the new Panasonic range, and have not yet decided if the size should be 37'' or 42''.

However I think I´ll end up with the 37''.

I had a 32'' crt before, which I didn´t think was too small - viewing distance from the couch is about 9 feet, but goes a bit down when seated in one of the chairs.

Watching (cable) tv wil be main use, with the occasional movie. But if you are a film-freak, I think you should opt for the 42''.

I have almost no experience in flat screens - only what I have seen in stores a couple of times - so be sure to get other inputs (you will get hits on this forum if you search for 'viewing distance')

    Regards,
    Mike

It's also worth bearing in mind that for the last 6 months, I've been watching a 26", middle-of-the-range Philips LCD which I've been fairly contented with.

At 7' and a step up from a 26" (which you're happy with) you should be fine with a 37". Still, try and demo the 2 sizes ... and see what kind of difference there is in picture quality for yourself at 7'. If you don't see any difference ... then you may not regret going for the 42".

Also remember the possible sizing bars top & bottom with some DVD formats, like the 2.35:1 - then you'd want the 42. :)

I sit about 8 feet away from a 42" screen. At first I thought ITS HUGE!! You very quickly get used to it and I now think that 8' wouldn't be too close for a 50". Make sure you demo first but I'd go for the 42" myself.

I'm viewing my 7ft projector screen from about 10ft away. 7ft away from a tiny 42" screen should mean you only squint a little
