Well the Viera 37PE30 arrived today and this evening I got it all set up. I have to say it looks very good on it's pedestal stand (PX20), pictures certainly don't do it any justice. As soon as I plugged it in it scanned for the available channels, first analogue and then DVB. According to the Freeview website my postcode cannot pick up any channels and the DTG site claims I can only pick up a few of the BBC ones. To my delight it picked up ALL the channels! A quality rating of 9 too - hoorar! Picture quality from the DVB tuner is excellent. I also have ntl:cable tv running into my TiVo and from there to the Viera (AV1 RGB). I was impressed with the picture quality, much better than I was expecting. Of course lower bitrate channels can look slightly grainy, but it's still pretty damn good. Oddly enough I haven't tried a DVD yet *shock*! I've got the DMR-E85 (£250 discount thanks to the Panny promotion) hooked up via component and I'm hoping the PQ from this will save me buying a new DVD player - my old Pioneer 545 doesn't have component. I just need to find a way to make the E85 multiregion. I'm curious about the various aspect settings though. On my Panny CRTs I've always used 'Just' mode to fill the screen with 4:3 images (I know, I know) as it was quite effective at not making people look fat. This mode isn't available on the Viera when watching TV, only during PC or SD card use. Surely it should be the other way around?! 'Panasonic Auto' mode is also zooming all non 16:9 broadcasts to fill the screen, whereas it should show 4:3 as 4:3, 14:9 as 14:9 etc. Very odd, but those are my only gripes. Anyway, levels are down for the breaking-in period and overall I'm a very happy chappy! Andy.
