Award-winning Swedish commercial director Adam Berg has been chosen by Universal to helm his first feature film, the remake of David Cronenberg‘s 1983 horror classic 'Videodrome', from a script by Ehren Kruger (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen), who is also on board as a producer. There is no word who will replace original star James Woods.

The 1983 original, which stars James Woods and Debbie Harry, follows a Toronto cable CEO who discovers a secret broadcast signal that's capable of causing hallucinations.

In the updated version, Berg and Kruger plan to modernize the concept, infusing it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it up into a large-scale sci-fi action thriller.

Berg won the Film Grand Prix at the Cannes Lion International Advertising Festival for his Carousel ad for Philips.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Don't touch Videodrome it's perfect.

I've seen that carousel ad before, it's very cool.

Part of the brilliance of Videodrome was the small scale and intimacy of the characters which helped delivering the horror that much more effectively. I'm curious how they're gonna translate that to a large scale sci-fi actioner though. And yeah, the ad is really wicked cool.
