I am about to purchase a 42" Panasonic PV500 and a Yamaha RX-V1500 amplifier. I watch mainly Sky. The amp does component video up conversion and I was wondering if there would be a great improvement in picture quality if I buy a JST RGB to component video converter to allow me to plug the Sky box into the amp and up convert the video.

Any views from anyone with experience would be appreciated

    regards
    Scott

The PV500 scales up the Sky picture itself.
Will the Yamaha do a better job?
Will it scale it to the native resolution of the P500? Otherwise the P500 is only going to have to rescale it again.

RGB to component converter will give you better picture quality since the RGB signal would be higher spec than an Svideo, etc.....

if you Sky box can output YUV would be worth a try ... (in australia the latest sky/foxtel boxes output YUV)... the amp will improve the signal, but the best quality signal you can output from the foxtel, will always yield better quality results....

Hi Scott, as your amp does the upconversion, you might as well give it a try. Dunno where you are, but you might be able to find someone to let you have a go with a converter, or maybe buy one used from classifieds, folks sell them when they buy a scaler. Having had a play with this many times with many Panasonic screens, I can say there is no hard and fast rule, sometimes you see a big difference, sometimes you don't.

Thanks all. I'm going to look around for a converter second hand and give it a go
