Nice Interview Steve, did LG comment on their decision to ditch 3D?

Good to know they're going to support the 2016 owners with HLG. Always enjoy your videos at these shows, so thanks again guys :)

They needed to ask if Technicolor HDR will be firmware update or does it need hardware.

Is the 77" only for the W or will any of the other models be 77"?

So they will have the full line of OLEDS from the 1st week of April. That's a lot earlier than last year no?

For last years models the same guy said end of march for G6 and C6 and may for E6 and late may for B6 so it's about the same

By the way, any info about Dolby Vision support via HDMI on the 2016 models? Forum rumor mentioned that DV is only USB and streaming

      Thanks @Steve Withers
Do you also have an interview planned with a LG tech guy who you could ask whether they further improved the near black uniformity? As we all know the 55" OLEDs are very nice uniformity wise while the 65" still have a bit of vignetting and sometimes even vertical banding.

Agreed, very good news, especially considering that they already showed at IFA that it's possible.
Though not that it matters too much to me since I use an external receiver so it's that one which will need to have HLG support. HDMI 2.0a should be enough for that, right?

I would be surprised if that one made it into the 2016 OLEDs, though so far at least it doesn't sound like a big loss.

      G7 as well.

I don't see why not, considering that theoretically only HDMI 1.4 is required for DV.

Have LG sorted out the motion issues on the 2017 panels?

If you're meaning to ask whether motion of the 2017 sets is any different to the 2016 one's, don't hold your breath.

      77W7 & 65W7.

The C7 is flat as well. No new curved OLED TV.

Great video, will be interesting to see the AVF W series review, how are you going to mount that sample without damaging your wall, the Mrs will have a fit, guess it might have to stay!
As much as I don't like soundbars, that one actually looks quite nice.

      Brilliant video thanks Steve.

They're saying that all the panels perform identically again with the 2017 sets - they said that last year but then review and owner feedback was that there were slight incremental improvements (ie people who had both said the C6 and E6 were better near black than the B6 and with the G6 having more finesse and more granular calibration potential than the rest) as you moved up the range so I'd assume it's the same now?

I'm guessing Sony would bring their colour banding smoothing tech from the ZD9 to their new OLED to make bad content look better, have LG mentioned if they'll be doing anything to help make poorer content look better on OLED please?

Steve - Very interesting interview and once again a host of new technology names to get my head around. Any discussion around the HDMI Forum announcement on version 2.1?

      HDMI :: Press Release

Would also like a round up/reviews in the future on the new batch of Atmos soundbars that are appearing on the scene.

No they didn't but since every TV manufacturer has now ditched 3D it's just not an issue any more.

The W7 is the wallpaper design and all the TVs are flat, LG have dropped curved as well as 3D.

Unlike last year where the B6 used a different System on Chip (SoC) to the C6, E6 and G6, all the 2017 models use the same SoC, so the differences will be cosmetic. Sony are bringing the X1 Extreme processor that was introduced on the ZD9 to the A1 (and XE93/94) but LG haven't mentioned any specific new image processing feature on their 2017 OLED TVs.

All the TVs at CES use HDMI 2.0a, the manufacturers aren't rushing to implement HDMI 2.1, partly because it's only just been finalised but mainly because there currently isn't any need for it.

Great stuff thanks Steve - it will be interesting to see how they price them differently this year taking that into account.

It's a great time to be an OLED buyer (as long as you don't like 3D in which case buy a 2016 set now!)

@Steve Withers - if the C7 is flat, and has the same SoC as the B7, and doesn't have 3D, do you know what differentiates the B7 and C7 ? Thanks for the great video interview

Apart from the new model W7 and the flat C7, the rest of the range design looks exactly the same as last years models.

Don't understand why couldn't they change the design for this year for B7, G7 and E7. They look boring as ever.

Hi Steve, thanks for a very interesting video, well done. I wonder, was there any mention of the 2016 OLEDs being upgraded to WebOS 3.5 as well as HLG?

Thanks for that. Some really cool stuff coming in 2.1 but frankly the feature set is mostly for things way down the line which are not part of the UHD disc spec. 48GB/S. 8K@60fps, 4k@120fps HFR and the like. The only one that caught my eye in there which is usable right now is the zero latency frame on demand gaming mode. Obviously you'd need a capable display as well but that's a great addition for gamers.

Upshot would seem to be that for UHD HDMI2.0a is all we need so we can all make purchasing decisions now to that spec which is welcome and frankly long overdue. :)

I believe the differences will be purely cosmetic.
