Steve, did you get a chance to actually view some content on these?

Yes JVC had the new version of the X7000 showing scenes from the UHD BD of Warcraft and I thought it looked really impressive.

Will await tests to see if it will be worth switching from X7000 to the same model of the year :)

That is great to hear, would you say it was a visible upgrade over the old version? Also did you notice any improvement of the HDMI switching times? Thanks

They were just showing the same scene on a loop, so I can't comment on the HDMI switching but I think the HDR did look a bit better than last year's models – just having a proper dedicated HDR mode probably makes a difference.

So in terms of ££££, what do we think the prices will be for each model in UK?

Why does JVC still use the same old chassis. Most likely it will still use that nineties tech to update the firmware using a serial port. With the exception of the very small lumens increase most of the changes could have been done via a firmware update. Does JVC really think that users, like me, who bought a X7000 12 months ago, will simply upgrade again. They should stick to 2 year cycles because now the resale value drops more quickly.

Nothing wrong with the chassis, Sony are doing the same. The big thing for this cycle is the gaming mode which did require a hardware change. Masses of peeps who could not get into the jvc camp due to lag issues can now join. I am on the fence as well.

OMG, why can't they get on with introducing native 4K chips into this range. Looks like I'm gonna have to wait another year before upgrading my X-30, or might move over to Sony.

Sony upgraded their chassis when they introduced their 4k range 3-4 years ago. JVC is already using this chassis for 5+ years.

No need to wait for 4k. When I bought my JVC X7000 I was sure I was going for the Sony VW520. But after comparing them side by side at my dealer it was so clear the X7000 was the better unit. And do not forget that 95% of what you play is not even in 4k.

They have, it's called the Z1 and it's $35K. Give it a year or two.

This is true I sold my Sony 4K after comparing the two. Check out our Sony 320ES vs JVC X7000 shootout on the US forum. Native 4K is heaps better but due to the sub-par lenses Sony use they can't fully take advantage of the panels. The Z1 and the 5000ES are in a different world due to superb light-path.

I do hear what you are saying, I should try to arrange a demo somewhere. What I worry about is the impact of the shifting on my eyes? My eyes are very sensitive to light, I got headaches from single chip DLP and cannot watch active 3D films.

But isn't this the Highest Common Factor v Lowest Common Denominator debate? Shouldn't we building building systems of the highest possible quality (optimised for 4K) rather than what is acceptable with other available sources? Otherwise why do we upgrade?

It happens so fast you will not see a damn thing of the process :) It's not like bad 3D was back in the day.

Correct but this is where Sony saved $$$ in the process, on their top end models they use the best lenses and that is true 4K, I tested their 5000ES ($60K) and that thing is just wooow that lens resolves ALL the detail however none of their lesser models do. I had two of them, the first gen was ridiculously bad the 2nd was OK. That's why an e-shift PJ can keep up easily.

I've been holding out for a while on a new 4k projector and this JVC 7500 may just do the trick. I spent quite a long time on the phone with my guy at DisplayCalibration and he says it would be worth holding on to it.
It would be heading into the Loft Cinema and units will be available start of March apparently. I might just buy one and let you know how it goes.
By the way, I'd recommend Jules to come calibrate. He certainly knows his shizzle!
