Video Format question on Sony 55NX810

Standard Member
I have a Sony 55NX810. It is on my home wifi network along with my Seagate Home NAS. I can stream movies to my tv from the NAS fine in .mpg format. When I try to play a .mp4 format the video doesn't show up in the folder. However if I try to play the same file via a USB it plays just fine.

Why will the video play via usb but not via wifi?

Because Sony only added mp4 support to the DLNA player on the 2011/2012 models, the 2010 models like the NX810 don't have it.

I would suggest getting a set top box to play the files instead. If you use a cable/sat set top box the Sony GoogleTV (don't worry Sony do not make the software) has a nice HDMI pass-through feature so it overlays your existing TV set top box saving you from switching inputs. There are of course much cheaper solutions like WDTV Live and so forth but they will require their own input.
