I have a Sony KDL40W5500U TV, it has a USB port.
I shows jpeg images and plays mp2 music, but I can't find a video format it likes.
I also have the Sony Home Theatre System, that also has a USB port and exhibits the same problem.

Is there some video editing software to convert.
I have played with ffmpeg but don't know the correct command line options.
Any ideas
Thanks
JL

According to the Sony spec sheet, the video format is mpeg1.

Try using one of the free converters from here: Koyote Soft

If you're comverting from HD use the HD video converter 1.7 - if from SD, video converter 2.9, and select mpeg1 as your output format.

These converters use ffmeg, but don't need the command line instructions.

Thanks I will try these

I experimented a bit more and got
ffmpeg -i myfile.mov -target vcd myfile.mpg
to work.
Although the mov format was high definition and vcd is much worse !

According to the manual it should play AVCHD,HDV,MPEG2-PS

I don't know if ffmpeg can do these or any other high def Sony might like.

I replaced -target vcd with -target svcd and it converted OK but the sony TV wouldn't play it.

Will report back and thanks again for the reply.

It's very short!

If on USB TV plays it OK

Over net to Vista PC the TV always spins for a while and then reports no items to display. So I assume some config problem.
It does display/play pictures and music.

I need to investigate why/how Vista allows things to be seen. I can see a picture that doesn't seem to be in any media sharing folder. But Vista is the pits and hides things in folder and won't let you see it no matter what security you set. I know they are there because the editing app happily shows them.

I can investigate picture with ffmpeg -i but you don't happen to know the options to create similar ones.

Also a bit more info..
When using USB in the the file list the file had "AVC" appended to it,

And when it played it had a label in the top right corner saying "Dolby Digital"
This might have disappeared after a while but the clip was so short I could not say for sure.

It's 1440 x 1080 and has a dd 5.1 sound track (5 seconds 8.43MB). Do you wan't a longer clip to play with ? The site I use has a 200MB file size limit.

About a minute would be nice.
Any idea on ffmpeg command to make mts

Your link didn't seem to work, did you mean..
Disney2010.m2ts - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

I tried tsmuxergui and it worked a treat.
It converted my MOV to .m2ts very quickly.
I am not a video expert but I assume it does not need to convert the file completely just repackage it. It was as fast as copying it, although I have only done one so far.

The file was a .m2ts which the Sony played OK ( no label about dolby digital ). I was much better quality than the vcd format.
I renamed it to .mts and it found and played that OK as well.

I noted that tsmuxergui had a TS check box so I assume it will convert to TS. Which means I could possibly use the Humax convertion program that generates the required extra files. This gives you the chance to add extra comments to a file which would be very nice when viewing in the future. Will have a little play at weekend on this and report back.

Yes you can use tsmuxergui to create .ts files to use with av2hdr but you don't need to use .ts it works with m2ts and mts files. (thats what i used to generate the clip info)

Try this link

My files have AC3 5.1 tracks because my camcorder records 5.1

That played perfectly on the TV via USB, very good quality.
Does your camcorder have video stabilization ?
There were no labels overlayes.

Thanks for the info I know what to take to Son In Laws now. Yes the camcorder has optical stabilisation. The footage was shot at the lowest HQ quality available on the camcorder

As a final note I installed PMS media player on my Vista PC and the Sony TV found it immediately. Seem to play the mts videos OK other format under investigation.
