Very interesting and informative coverage, thanks for asking the LG guy about HLG for 2016 Oleds, with the dropping of 3D from the 2017 range this make the 2016 range a perfectly reasonable option for those of us who don't like to see technology go backwards (don't worry, not going to shoot the messenger, mumble, mumble)

Looking forward to the podcasts returning, my gym sessions are far more boring without them. Thanks.

Ps. For the pedants out there, Yes I am aware that the LG guy didn't say HLG would definately come to the 2016 OLeds but it was close enough for me and nothing in life is definate anyway, so there.

PPs. Post CES resolution, must never mention 3D in a forum post again.

Thanks guys - an outstanding job done & very entertaining - and Ed - a great addition to the CES team.

Indeed the 'W' (Wallpaper) TV seemed the highlight to me also.

      Thanks, Dave AC (cooperda)

Many thanks to Steve, Phil, Ed and the rest of the editorial staff in delivering top notch coverage of CES 2017. I can tell by the frequency, timing and quality of your updates that you guys have been working incredibly hard and your efforts are greatly appreciated.

I may be in the minority but I've been really impressed with CES 2017. I agree about it being "evolution rather than revolution" but to me, this year's CES seems largely progressive. It's been full of surprises (particularly for ZD9 owners - well done you!). Consumers now have enormous choice for both OLED and LED sets; within OLED, each manufacturer will be able to bring their own strengths. I for one cannot wait for AVforums to review these TVs.

I sincerely sympathise for those who have invested so heavily in 3D. I know how you all feel (sort of); way back in late 90's / early 2000's - I was convinced that minidiscs were going to be a thing!

Great news for Dolby Vision. Better late than never I suppose. I just hope DV doesn't fall into same fate as 3D (i.e. expensive, failing to achieve mainstream public support, appealing to a niche market etc) and manufacturers dropping it in future sets. I wish Dolby the best of luck as I want DV to succeed.

What a great start to the year. Thanks AVF!

Well done gentlemen - great coverage from the US/UK and I'm looking forward to next week's podcast. On that note, can you please address all the main issues/concerns being raised by members during forthcoming episodes. Will Rogue One even get a mention?
Must admit whilst watching this closing video, the three of you would not be out of place from a scene in Breaking Bad.
Once again, many thanks for all your hard work, it's greatly appreciated.

Interesting if Sony made a late decision to add DV (I seem to remember some decision making in the hours before the PS4 launch too). Previously it's been said that there's a specific h/w (a chip) required to allow DV.

If that's no longer true and it's just licensed there's still f/w development to get it running on Sony's h/w. Either way (unless the dev team actually had a head start) that's going to add months to the launch date.

Probably too late for LG to bring back 3D this year, so 2018 maybe. About as likely as Samsung admitting they've made a major error not having OLED and using an LG panel.

Yes we'll cover everything in more detail in the podcast but as far as Samsung goes it was a bit disappointing to be honest, I'd like to see them really surprise us next year.

Yes and it looked amazing but it's aimed purely at the professional market and it's incredibly expensive, so I wouldn't expect to see it in consumer displays any time soon.

Yes neither are very likely, in fact I'd say we've got more chance of seeing Elvis make a comeback in 2018!

With the lack of bombastic announcements, it made for a CES you could actually follow and take in all the news as it happened, rather than missing a lot of it and having to play catch up.

I thought @Ed Selley did very well for popping his CES cherry. Was the the infamous £900-odd leather Schott jacket he was wearing?!!! TBF its worn its age very well.....annoyingly just as Ed boasted it would at the time.

Hacked off about the (apparent) demise of 3D capable TV's as many of us have invested in a decent collection of these 3D BD's. :censored: Having said that, as usual, an excellent coverage of CES but I do feel that it was more like two fat blokes and one slightly podgy one with no feet (and at times) no legs in the Nevada Desert due to camera position. This comment is made by an ex semi fat bloke who lost a stone and a half (as Count Withers might remember as he wished me well) through the heart attack then stent implanted and triple heart bypass op weight loss programme last year, not the best way to do it. Anyway well done guys and I look forward to the next regular podcast. ;)

Very similar- and like the AN-E it is fantastically sensitive too. Unlike the Audio Note, it seems much happier in free space.

I meant it as a good thing the audio notes are excellent.

I wondered if the orangutan was designed to go across a corner the same

It was 'only' £600 when I bought it (although our currency meltdown means it's now £790). The idea is that as I now need to buy my son a coat a year for about the next 12-13 years, it has to last at least that long. So far so good.

The one thing I did like from Samsung is their collaboration with Portrait Displays and the addition of DDC, which I'd love to see in other manufacturers' sets. It should really take the pain out of making adjustments when you can just do it in CalMAN, and I think they're even enabling full auto-cal.

Well it's made my choice of TV easier seeing what's going to be available in 2017, no 3D is a mistake for the OLED , so Sony 75" ZD9 LCD is my option .... unless I wait to see CES 2018 offerings next January !!

My apologies. I'm not sure I'd need it to last that long to tag it as worthwhile, but I guess £600 can buy a lot of vinyl that would last that long.

If you want a 3D TV you had better buy a 2016 model because it won't be on any TVs going forward. When I mentioned 3D to any manufacturer at CES they (literally) laughed in my face.

Great coverage. My thoughts for what they are worth.

Personally I wouldn't be buying any of Samsung current premium KS series TV until I knew their intentions for this year.

The Wallpaper TV was awesome. Also Sony innovative speaker through the OLED screen.

Would like to see the Sony have the option of a display stand otherwise it will be difficult to use a soundbar if it's placed on a unit. That is of course if the speaker in the display is not any good. Over to you Mr Withers when you get one for review.

The Sony's system appeals to me because it functions like a monitor to be mostly used with partnering gear but has the option of 'emergency sound' (and it might be that this system sounds better than that) for when you just want the news headlines. In some ways, it's a more impressive leap in thinking about the possibilities of OLED than just making the set itself really, really thin.

Good point. It is hard to judge the quality of sound via an internet video obviously one would have to listen to the TV in person prior to purchasing. Then factor in whether they would need an additional surround sound system.I know Sony, think most people purchasing high end big screen TVs already have surround sound.thus the sound on the Bravia is not that great. Will be interesting to hear that OLED in action,if for nothing more than curiosity.
