I need to buy a new video card to run my new monitor (Dell 2405FPW LCD) and I'm looking for some recommendations. All advice would be appreciated! First and foremost, the card would need to be capable of running my monitor's native resolution (1920 x 1200) via the DVI port. (I've read that not many cards can do this?) Second, I'm a designer/photographer, so the only other big requirement I have is that the card can run powerful graphics apps like Photoshop as fast as possible, and display high resolution JPEGs/TIFFs as quickly as possible. I'm also thinking about giving PC games a try (for the first time ever) so I'd like something that can handle 3D too. Nothing excessively powerful, just capable of doing the job of running 3D games. Although fairly decent so it'll last me a couple of years. (Can anyone tell me what my options are?) I was wondering... do PC games let you specify your own resolution, or do they force their own resolution? I'd like to always use the native resolution of 1920 x 1200, but I'm guessing this would require a lot more powerful 3D card? Also, can anyone advise me on buying a DVI lead? Are they basically all the same or will I get a better picture if I spend more? And finally can anyone recommend a good supplier of cards or leads? Any advice at all would be appreciated!
