Is this worth buying, is it as good as the PS2 version, any links to any reviews?
Thanks in advance
Depending on your PC it can be better, it was designed from the ground up for the PC rather than a port like GTA3 was
Anybody know if Vice city runs any better than GTA3 as I still can`t get it to work
I haven't played the PS2 version of GTA VC but the PC version is excellent.
Particularly the different vehicles you can now drive, fly etc such as Golf Buggy, Helicopter, Scooter, Motorbike etc.
Also it seems a lot more stable than GTA3. I was having crashes often with GTA 3 but none so far with GTA VC.
and it runs better too. I have not upgraded my PC since playing GTA3 and GTA VC definitely is smoother. Don't have the graphics stutter problem that was present with GTA3. It runs very smoothly with only very minumum slow down when about fifty cop cars are after you! Thats only on a P4 1.7ghz aswell.
Buy it now!!
much, much better than any other gta title including gta3 on the pc and gta:vc on the ps2. the graphics are supurb and it is much more stable that gta3.
cool, looks like im making a purchase this weekend
No need to buy it mate, download it
probably get banned for saying that lol
I bought mine from gamesplanet.co.uk. Cheapest place I could find at only £24.29 free delivery. Its delivered from the Isle of Man so may take an extra day on delivery. I ordered mine Sunday evening and it came Wednesday morning.
Try this link
Play.com have it for £22.99
I'm going to search for a demo first as my age-ing pc had a bit of trouble with gta3 in the big city (2nd island) but was otherwise fine.
GTA: VC is great on the PC, it runs well on default settings on my second machine AMD 1400 and Geforce DDR.
My AMD 2000XP and Geforce 4 is smoother but the old AMD 1.4 was still quite playable.
Couldn't be bothered waiting for a demo so ordered it from play.com. Will let you know if it runs on a P800, 256 MB and a GeForce Ti 4200.
Can't afford to upgrade my computer as am moving house.
Wonder how I found the cash to buy a game....
Go Vice City, installed it and it ran perfectly first time. Well for 5 minutes then it rebooted my computer. I think there's a conflict between my graphics card and my sound card, nothing obvious that windows reports.
Any help would be appreciated.
I've got a PIII 800 with 256MB. Win98 SE. GeForce 4 Ti 4200 (leadtek) 64MB and an Aureal Vortex 8830 sound card.
I've got the latest drivers and Vice City updated my directx.
It's weird, if I set the game to sound hardware, there's no sound effects. Doing it by software emulation it works but crashes after 5 mins.
You may have to reinstall you sound card drivers after installing Direct X.
What operating system do you have?
Have you applied any service packs?
Windows 98 Second Edition v. 4.10.2222.A
I've spent alot of today playing with IRQ settings but with no success. Think I'll try reinstalling the sound card drivers as you suggested.
I removed my modem (wasn't using it anyway) and my network card and it still didn't work.
Got a new sound card, Creative SB Live 5.1 and it works
Except for when I have the network card in
Unfortunalty the network card is kinda essential. At least I've solved half the problem. Will now play around with the network card drivers and which slot it get plugged into.
.......After I finish the next mission
WinXP, thunderbird 1400, half a gig of decent DDR and a 9000 pro - 1024x768 with all the shiny bits and edonkey running in the background. Smooth as a buttered baby's behind.
The game itself? got it yesterday. Wow.
Says it all. Originally wasn't sure if I should buy it (after having finshed GTA3) but is well worth it.
Love that chainsaw! And the bikes.
Ride to Work
Work to Ride!!!
AHHH!!! How annoying. If I put the network card in, can't play GTA-VC and when I remove it I also have to remove the sound card for one reboot to reset it's irq. Seems it only works if during startup, before windows loads, the sound card gets irq 5.
I've tried reserving irq 9 to stop it getting that but as that is in windows, it messes up.
But in the meantime, have done some amazing stunts on motorbikes and have just found a helicopter to play in
Can't believe it took me this long but finally everything works!!! (for now)
Had to install Win XP, reinstall my graphics, sound and network cards but it works now! Shame I've finshed the game already
BTW If anyone else has a LeadTek Winfast Nvidia 4200 graphics card and you use the included CD to install the drivers, it messes up part of the registry making it impossible to install network cards. The error message XP gives you is the "helpful" 'The Data is invalid'.
Luckily there is a little app on the microsoft website that fixes the registry for you. Took me all weekend to find that....
I didn't think it worth starting a whole new thread if the news was to do with GTA Vice City. Well anyway for you fans of the game who always wished they could have fights with characters with a little more intelligence than the intellectually challenged police officers heres some good news:
Yes thats right! Its Vice City Multiplayer and its no hoax. I doubt its officially supported by rockstar but i doubt anyone really cares. Go download and install it. You can thank me later.
Feedback on how well it works would be good so don't get too into it.
