vhs to dvd problem with nstc tapes

    hi
    im using a panasonic e 55 to record old vhs tapes to dvd
    also using a panasonic vcr i can record fine with vhs exept when i try to record tapes that were recorded with nstc i get the picture split a bit at the bottom of screen is this normal? or is there some setting i should know about?
    nstc video plays ok when not using e55 but when recording picture split at bottom

    I assume your VCR is a PAL one? Many PAL VCRs will play a NTSC tape OK, but they output it in something called PAL60 - i.e. they convert it to a "Pseudo-PAL", something which isn't true PAL or NTSC, that PAL TVs can play.

    The E55 can record NTSC or PAL, but I don't believe it can do this PAL60. You would need a true NTSC VCR.

    Or a Pioneer or Philips dvd recorder,both of which record PAL 60
