During my work with media centre Pc's, I encountered a number of VGA to Scart adapters, cables etc.

What do you guys think of these? Are they worth the risk (of possibly killing your TV, let alone the graphics card!)? Any prefered brands, or did you make your own?

    Cheers in advance,

    Andy

I'm still looking for a VGA to Scart cable to go from a set-top DVD player to my Sanyo Z3 projector - Sanyo make their own one but not seen it anywhere.

So I'd be very grateful Andy if you could pass on where you can get any sort of Scart to VGA cable!

    Cheers

The company I used to work for were buying them in, various brands but I can't remember the makes :( I've been searching for them since too, but haven't been able to find any.

I've found a lot of schematics for making your own, including ones with automatic compensation and switch over; my current employer (we make fairly unique mini-itx cases and small media center systems) is going to let me experiment with them (I assume only if I don't blow their LCD TV up ;)), so I'll post my results once I've had time to make one and see how it goes. You never know, we might sell them ;)

Would definitely be interested to hear how you get on.

And if anyone else does find a Scart-VGA cable please tell me where!

    Thanks

    Hello dancingmatt

As long as you have the pin outs/ins our friends at VanDamme will manufacture SCART to HD15(VGA) cables for RGBHV using the Red Series mini four or five core 75 ohm Multicore.

    Best regards

    Joe

Unfortunately there is a bit more to building a VGA > Scart cable than matching the pin outs - there are issues to do with refresh rate, intelligent changeover and more if you are looking to make one for 'general' consumption :(

I think were both making assumptions :)

I'm assuming the signal from the SCART socket is compatible with the HD15 (VGA) socket dancingmatt wants to attach it to - your assuming its not!!!

Just because something has an HD15 (VGA) Input socket doesn't mean its a PC socket - we used to own a couple of hundred Video Wall monitors and they all had RGB Video Inputs on HD15 (VGA) sockets.

    Best regards

    Joe

    Hello Andy

I'm from the 'lets take every cable we own - one of them must work' world :)

I'm sure dancingmatt will let us know who's making the correct assumption in this case!!!

Then again we may be both wide of the mark!

    Best regards

    Joe
