VGA/SVGA Monitor cables. How many pins?

    just recieved a new lead from overclockers. But it has a pin missing at both ends. Instead of 3 rows of 5 pins, the middle row has only 4 pins.
    My other leads have al the pins. is this right?

    you only need 9 pins connected
    R + earth
    G + earth
    B + earth
    H + shared earth with V
    V

    some vga leads have pins missing, but as already been said, a lot of pins are not used.
