I was just messing round with the scarts on the back of my Sky box and noticed a VGA connection there, is it possible to use a VGA connection to hook this upto my LCD tv?

You can get Scart - VGA converters, Scart - component converters and some DVD recorders have RGB Scart inputs and component outputs to run it through
Or you could head for a cheap scaler ;)

Remember that bitrates across all the channels on Dsat do vary quite alarmingly and most really do not like being enlarged to match the resolution of the LCD.
Some LCD's do a better job of this than others which is one of the weak points in buying a HD panel for SD digital broadcasts. A better scart cable may help and the price of a RGB to component may be too high for a marginal increase component could offer. Basically if the source material is poor and the display scaling engine is not good then no money on a better connection is going to make up the difference:(

DVD I suspect looks very good even via scart let alone component.
HD of course will blow DVD out of the water:)
