    Just got a Sony VPH12-51QM..
Going to have a look at the tubes tonight, see if they are in good condition or not.

How much are these projectors worth? Saying that the tubes have <2000hr's.

Does anyone do professional installations in the East Midlands area? If so, how much?

    Any advice on the projector?

    Thanks in advance.

total shot in the dark but i would say between £500-700 if the tubes are in good nick and £50-100 if they are worn.

the set up for these is fairly easy, well worth having a play your self.

d/load pjcalc 1.8 to get the distance from the screen based on the size and ratio you are using, and take it from there.I have loads of pdf's and tutorials for the 12xx series that i can zip up and email you.

I have a 1271 that I have had in my room for 3 months now and I can do a complete set up in about 45 mins.

As long as you do everything in the right order and you arent using a really small or large screen it shpould be fairly painless.

drop me a pm if you want some help and I will try my best.

they are others on here that are far more knowlagable than I am, so I am sure you will get some useful info. ;)

Beefy welcome, great little starter projector. the tubes are the key if these are ok then you should be fine.
Gordon did a great little piece on one the projectors he got from me on his web site, whilst not quite the same PJ it is close enough.

Probably the single most important bit is to clean the blue CRT surface. The blue tube is dirrectly over the EHT circuits and all the fine dust is sucked in and sits on the surface of the tube. You will have to take out the power supply at the bottom (two screws) to gain access to the bolts and release the lenses. clean these up with a good lens cleaner.

    Thanks guys..

I have some information to get me started.
Thanks alot to gizlaroc for a email in setting up the pj... :)
I checked the hours on the tubes, it was over 1000 hrs. I guess the tubes will tell me the real story, because I heard you can reset the timers..

Also, I have also been told the 20 mins startup aka "Screen of Death", is not good. I tried turning it off, by going into service mode and holding down the on button, alas nothing happend.

Also, I am looking for a mounting bracket for the projector, I would like to get that sorted before the carpets go down upstairs. :)
I have been told to use unistrut for a mounting bracker, anyone know what frame/model/type?

    Thanks again.

I would have said the opposite. It helps heat the whole projector up and gets it ready for prime viewing.

If you don't like it then just play a moving video picture but it will probably have to be for a bit longer to get the PJ up to temperature.

I've got quite a few 127* ceiling mount in at the moment.
I would use the shallowest Unistrut. Can supply that if you need it too.

    Roland,

What price are we looking at for the 127* ceiling mount and the Unistrut?

    Thanks.

I'm doing my best to catch up with Email I try to answer them in the order they come in.

Except the ones about viagra, copying DVD's and marvolus holiday offers and some company in America who seem obsessed with selling me a towbar. (though the Viagra prices do seem to vary a lot)
