Sorry for such a basic question but how do you make it so that when you turn on the tv to say channel one; the channel changes automatically to av1 where a freeview box is; I have this arrangement with my skybox; hoping its not exclusive to that;many thanks

If you have your freeview box connected by a fully wired scart lead from the freeview box TV out scart to your TV AV1 scart then no matter which analogue programme you are watching switching the freeview box on should automatically switch the TV to the freeview box on AV1.

Correct. When the freeview box is taken out of standby it should send a DC voltage (nominal 12 volts) to the TV AV SCART (using pin 8) ; this voltage tells th TV that it has an input from the box and it should then automatically switch to showing that input.

what do you mean by fully wired? I have a double ended scart lead that came with my dvd player; will that do the trick?

A standard fully wired scart lead has 21 pins in the plugs and 21 individual wire conductors within the cable sheath, not all 21 connections are used/needed by some equipment so cheaper scart cables are available with maybe only 9 pins/connectors.
Have you wired it as per the suggestion?
