Vertical Displacement of Projected Image from the Projector?

Distinguished Member

I've been looking in more detail at different models to see which ones would fit in the ideal spot place in my room (a shelf on the rear wall). I've only just noticed that some models projector the image at some vertical offset from the lens while others fire the image such that the centre of the image is aligned with the lens.

I've only looked at a small subset of models (Panasonic AX100 & Sanyo Z5 in the LCD camp, Mitsubishi HC3000 & Optoma HD70/72/73/80 in the DLP came) and in that sample all the DLP models fire with an offset while the LCD models don't. Is this true for all LCD/DLP models? If so, what is the technical reason for this?

If this is the case then it will have to be LCD for me (or DLP with lens shift but that doesn't appear to be a budget feature).
