I have every series of Buffy:-

Series 1 - very grainy and blocky in places. Average at best.
Series 2 - better but still grainy in very light scenes IMO
Series 3 - good, not grainy at all
Series 4 - (R2) very good. No problems
    Series 5 - Nearly perfect

I don't think there is anything wrong with the sound in any series tbh.

    :)

Please be aware that it wasn't until season three of Buffy when they switched to superior 35 mm film stock after using 16 mm. Noone was sure the series was going to last more than one season anyway. Seasons 1 - 3 are 4:3, seasons 4 onwards are widescreen.

The theme music was also re-recorded and the new version used from season three onwards and kicks ass.

I agree with RL123's summary about the video quality

Its a similar situation with SG-1. They switched to 35mm during season 2 and in one of the commentarys by Peter DelLuise he says that when they use stock footage (say outside the mountain) then it was made during season 1 and thus not 35mm and its really noticeable the switch in film stock

its still watchable though you do get the odd grainy episode but sill enjoyable IMO

Season 1 of Stargate SG1 is very good on R1. I have season 4 on R2 and the picture is excellent.

I am told that season 3 and after season 4 is similar in quality. Season 2 is better than season 1 but not as good as season 3 upwards.

    The sound is DD 5.1.
