It'll be a few weeks yet before supplies start to arrive in the UK - Verbatim will be the first.

Almost certainly. People seem to be under the impression that DDV-R DL will drive down the price of DVD+/-R DL due to competition - unfortunately dual layer media of both flavours is effectively made by the same companies (Verbatim and Ricoh for the most part) and thus is likely to command a premium for sometime yet.

The strength of any such 'competition' will also depend on the compatibility of -R DL with DVD players. A great deal of the wide compatibility of +R DL is due to the ability to booktype discs to DVD-ROM. Is there any such facility incorporated into the -R DL format?

Hmmm. So how do I "booktype" DVD+R DL discs to DVD-ROM?

I've got a Pioneer 109 DVD writer in my PC and have been using "1click dvd copy" software.

Will this enable them to play in my Panasonic E95?

I was under the impression that the standard firmware in the Pioneer 109 automatically bitset +R DL to DVD-ROM. Can you check the booktype of your already-burned DL discs with DVDInfoPro or the tools in Nero?

However DVD recorders are generally not as compliant as DVD players with +R DL (even after bitsetting to DVD-ROM).
