    Hi,

Looking at getting a velodyne sub, these are my possible options. All comments are welcome. Which is best??? Take into consideration price and performance.

    SPL1200mkII
    SPL1000mkII

    CHT 15
    DLS3750R (US model)

Obviously a US model would require a stepdown transformer for the voltage, can this cause any problems??

The Velodyne web site has a product selector that helps with the decision on which sub to get. it can be found Here

As for an imported sub, well I wouldn't recommend it. You are getting a high quality sub and a transformer is unlikely to be able to supply all the required current for the deep bass at higher volumes, well not unless you spend a lot of money on it.
I believe that Velodyne completely redesigned the power supply for the UK/Europe to get the best out of their subs and a transformer will not pass on these advantages.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll look around for a reasonably priced UK sub.

Well now is probably a good time to be looking for a good offer on a MkII SPL sub as the MkIII has just been announced. I'm sure there will be a few second hand MkII's around shortly, or even a fair few exdemos.

The DLS3750R is the same as the CHT-R subs that are available in the UK, just that for some reason it has a different name in the USA.

For sure there will be good offer, but I personally think the 6 bands equalizer of the third SPL serie worth the difference there will (probably) be.

I still don't know the street price of the SPL MkIII range, but I will probably change my MJA Ref100 by the SPL800R.

I bought the SPL-1000 mkII just a few weeks ago and find it to be fantastic in comparison to the previous Rel Q150e that I had. So much so that I'm considering upgrading again to the DD-12. If I do that my SPL-1000 may be going up in the classifieds soon.

Petey has bought my SVS PB-10 from the Classifieds. A wise choice even if I say so myself :)

Aah well, guess I'll just have to keep the SPL-1000 for a bit longer then, which is probably a good thing as it stops me spending more money unnecessarily :D

The SPL-R (SPL MkIII) subs will retail at the same price that the SPL MKII subs did.
