Velodyne SPL-800 II

It's a price thing. The CHT series has historically been the most popular range as it is the budget range. The HGS and now DD range are obviously far better subs but with price tags to match and with the best will in the world there are many more people that can spare £210 for a CHT-10 than £2,100 for a small DD

The SPL range is aimed at people who won't entertain a larger sub but suffers from being relatively expensive for the performance on offer as it is a relatively expensive exercise to scale things down without losing out in the performance stakes.

I once entertained thoughts of buying a pair of SPL subs and regaining part of my living room but didn't in the end.

The CHT8/CHT-R8 is the same size as the SPL12 mkII !!! in terms of differences between the CHT8 and an SPL800 mkII is size, more output from the SPL, more kick/punch from the SPL and due to the port on the CHT and positioning the CHT can be a little boomy compared, where as the SPL is cleaner and deeper sounding.
