How will this be different from Las Vegas and Magic City?

Who knows but given this is written by Nicholas Pileggi, writer of both Goodfellas and Casino I'll give it a go. Storywise its based on Ralph Lamb, who never actually shot anyone in his 18 years as sheriff. In truth the biggest differences will be because of the nature of who are developing these shows. Magic City is a Starz Cable subscription production whilst Vegas is a CBS broadcast, meaning slightly toned down language but a far greater audience.

Episode 1: Pilot

Enjoyed the pilot, but not sure it's for me, i get bored of crime dramas over a few episodes

I like the overall setting for the show and the cast is fine. Whilst it is obviously a procedural show in the main, I'm still hoping over the next few episodes we start to see an overall story arch start to develop too. It hasn't blown me away yet but enjoyable enough.

I thought it was pretty good, very much in the same sort of vein as Longmire. Some good solid characters and looks like a quality show in the making. So far, this is on my list as one of the best new shows this season

Yep, I like it

Solid show in my view ... obviously doesn't go as far as a cable show can (obvious comparison is Starz' Magic City), but an enjoyable cop/gangster/period drama show nevertheless
... most recent ep featured Kai Proctor's niece ;)

According to this it's likely to be cancelled.

It's getting ridiculous the amount of shows that are cancelled, just as I get into them too.

I hope Vegas isn't cancelled as I do enjoy it.

I don't like CSI, Good Wife is excellent and I watch Mentallist, so CSI can go for me :)

This one isn't for me. I tried it and didnt like it at all. I think I have been ruined by shows like BANSHEE and JUSTIFIED.

Shame.... moving on

I really enjoy The Good Wife and CSI NY. Tried the first episode of Mentalist and just didn't enjoy it.

Not seen Vegas yet, but will watch it as I like Chiklis as an actor.

Would I be on the wrong track hoping Vegas is a sort of Casino type of thing?

I've not seen any but started recording them.

^^^ it's a period cop show set in early 60s Vegas

Casino didn't focus that much on law enforcement characters, was all about the mobsters
Thanks, I was hoping for mobsters.
I miss The Sopranos :(
