Im hearing that VCD players are far better then DVD players when it comes too VCD playback in terms of picture/sound quality.

    Is this remotely true?

I heard 2 people say theres no pixely squares or slow downs or errors with VCDs at all with a proper vcd player unlike dvd players....

Ive seen some 60 quid good quality VCD players as well !

Thats what I thinking the VCD is just mpeg1, even played back on a Pc its still pixely/blocky even with the latest software/firmware.

So I doubt a VCD player will play it any better.

VCDS are poormans films, while DVD is the class

To be quite honest it is a bit of a mad question here.

VCD players are better at playing VCD's than DVD players. This should be obvious as A VCD players median is the VCD. A DVD players median is DVD.

Thats like saying that 'i've heard CD players are better at playing CD's than DVD players'.

    Think about it.

Yeap thats what I thought at first.

Guess ill have too wait till I can test it out myself on a VCD player !

If this is the case I wanna know just how good the picture/sound is !

    ROTFL.

Acutally in the early days it was said DVD players will beat VCD players, but anyhow, the limitation is the VCD format and not the player.
I have seen all kinds of VCDs but most do suffer from pixelation due to the MPEG-1 encoding and some VCD players seem to soften the image.

IMHO crap and not worth considering unless you live in Asia where (pirated) VCDs cost less than 1 pound.

Depends how you compare it, the difference between CD playback and DVD differ mainly in terms of the DACs used while VCD should be an easy thing to do since DVD (MPEG-2) is backwards compatible and can therefore decode VCD (MPEG-1), too.
So where should a VCD player have an advantage then? It can not make the picture look better as the source is already limited.

Anyhow, the fact remains that VCDs are crap. I did not invest in all that surround sound equipment and then feed it with inferior software ...
