Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CDTI

Hey everyone,

I am contemplating purchasing a new (to me ) car, and my boss has offered me his wifes old insignia. It is an 11 reg Insignia SRi Nav spec with the 2.0 158 ps CDTI engine, inbuilt sat nav etc.

Has anyone any experience with this car? I currently run an 06 Toyota corolla and looking to move to a Diesel as i currently do around 25k miles a year. The cars mileage is around 55k i believe so quite low.

Are these generally reliable? Heard they are quite heavy so 158 ps might mean its a tad slow?

Thanks for any thoughts!

Just be aware of the dpf and egr issue that blights these models, we loved ours, and the engine even though people think it's under powered happily cruised at 70+ day in day out and got there without a care in the world.

But the dpf issue made us sell ours sharpish! We bought ours new, covered 19k in 3 years and had to pay out to replace the dpf jacket, and then the egr failed and we sold up.

Hey mate, thanks for the reply. I have been researching it and apparently theres places local to me which offer to remove the DPF and can also remap the car? Not sure on the legalities of this also only ever owned 1 car so never delved into remaps etc.

One thing that worries me is i think in the 3 years shes had it shes only done 15k which i know can actually be worse for these engines than high mileage every year.

19k miles over 3 years is not enough mileage for diesel IMHO.

If your car had one fitted as standard it will fail it's next MOT if the tester spots that it's missing. Currently they aren't tested though, it's just a visual check, so if it's been gutted and left in place it will probably pass. However, with the crack down on diesel as public enemy number one, this could change, so I would hesitate to have anything done that cannot easily be reversed if legislation changes.

Cheers Iron, wont bother with anything like that then as not worth the risk.

It depends more on the type of miles rather than the total. If the miles are low but they were all long runs then that is fine for diesel. If the runs were generally short then that could be an issue.

My son has the Insignia...same year, same model.
Only problem has been the front brake discs....he's warped 2 sets now....completely his own fault!
Someone has stolen the Vauxhall badge off the grille (very common problem around these parts!)

One fairly common fault with the 2.0 engine is a water leak from the EGR cooler housing...Vauxhall will tell you to replace the whole unit at several hundred pounds, but you only need replace the plastic housing which costs about £40.

Thanks a lot, just spoke to my boss hes now saying hes wife is undecided if she wants to sell lol typical.
Been looking at Accords as well. Reliabilty is the main focus for me, although ive probably been spoiled with my Corolla. Done nearly 70k in it and only replaced tyres, pads, discs and one corroded brake pipe.
