hi guys, i bought a Smith's TimeGuard IR light switch from maplins. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=32372&criteria=ir light&doy=3m8

Apart from it being ugly and sticking an inch out from the wall it's a dimmer and doesn't work properly with my ceiling fan/light. The fan emits a buzzing noise and doesn't spin to the speed it used to with an ordinary on/off switch.

Is anyone using the Varilight switch with a ceiling fan and does it work properly?

    thanks

you're lucky you have not had the switch catch fire

you cannot use the dimmer with fans, it will be quite clearly stated in the instructions!

it will be fine for running the light but do not try and use the fan ;)

p.s if you have kids/wife it may be best to disconnect this altogether and replace with the std switch. potential fire hazzard, you have been warned :smashin:

yes i have already switched back to the standard switch, could not do without the fan during the recent heatwave.

Do varilight do a normal non-dimming IR switch?
