Van Helsing HD-DVD will not play on xbox 360 hd-dvd drive

Van helsing hd-dvd will not play on the xbox 360 hd-dvd drive, the universal
logo plays but instead of showing the main menu all that comes up is a warning that says content cannot play. I also have serenity and king kong and they play fine.

Anybody else have this problem?

OK, just tried my US copy on my UK drive and it plays fine.

Yours the same setup?

hd-dvd isnt region coded, its not one of the combo discs is it??? they are region coded on the dvd side but region free on the hd side.

It says so on the front of the disc R1, however on serenity and king kong it says R0 (region 0?).

I think for some of the "UK" releases they are the same discs as the US get with a few BBFC logos slapped on the cover. I know I bought "Unforgiven" from HMV but when I put it in my player the first thing that pops up is the familiar R1 USA FBI warning message...

All HD-DVD's are region-free regardless of what the box might say AFAIK.

R1 doesn't mean region 1

It's just part of a serial number type code on the disc.

I have Van helsing as purchased from HMV & it works fine.

Yeah it was - a nice "popcorn" movie that doesn't require any thought, so you can just sit back and be entertained

There are some HD-DVDs on amazon uk , clearly stating Region 1 Encoding.
Maybe some titles have got it.

They're being sold by private sellers, not Amazon. It's the same as you see people selling Region 1 HD-DVD players on ebay, they're people who don't know what they're selling.

Another UK HMV Van Helsing disc works on a US addon and a UK 360.

Basically no probs here..

Not one of the most visually stunning HD-DVD's IMO, but still enojoyed it as some lighthearted fun, and still better than the SD version.

To my eyes van helsing is one of the most impressive piece of hd material i have seen. You can download a 720p or 1080p trailer and some others in the wmv format from the link below,that can be streamed to your 360 if you have one to watch on your hdtv.
I have only seen it on sky movies so i'm in for a treat when i get the hd version.
