I've been making my way through all the cat 5 diy stuff on the site and had decided on some of the van damme blue series cable. However, I wanted to biwire and couldn't find a 4 core blue cable (there is a 2x pairs cable but no mention of the csa of said cable). I did find this cable however, it has 4 x 4mm cables and would seem to be just what i need. However it does weigh in at 3.90 per m. (http://www.vdctrading.com/products.asp?SubSectionID=1&Page=2#p15) not much compaired to some of the exotica out there but a bit more than the stuff recommend elsewhere on here. So I was wondering if anyone had tried this? or found a 4 core blue that was to their liking? Or is it me as guinea pig?

Any help, as always, is appreciated,
    B.

The first thing you should do is actually decide if you really want to biwire - there's plenty of info in this forum. It does double the cost of cabling!

If you definitely want to go along with biwiring you should consider using different gauges of cable for each and just taping them together, also consider the Starquad mic cable which is also easily capable of handling speaker level signals. :)

Beem I know a couple dudes on another forum who have bought the 2x4mm2 Blue Van Damme cable (same as black series) and they think its a huge CSA and very stiff, Go for 2x4mm2 and cable jump. More of Cable jumping here :

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=212753

Full length biwiring is the biggest waste of cash going, simply buy a decent single run and "jump" to the treble terminations.

    Hello all

The VanDamme Black Series tour grade speaker cables have a stiffer outer jacket than the Blue Series studio grade speaker cables - as the names suggest the Black Series is designed to last 'on the road'.

I use a predecessor to the Black Series 4x2.5mm with a pair of Linn Tukans and a Linn Majik and it works well - its easy enough to get the paired conductors into a single 4mm 'banana' plug; though the outer jacket on the old cable is more like the Blue Series jacket.

I may have a drum of the above cable in stock if you want some 4x2.5mm that's slightly more flexible than the Black Series.

    Best regards

    Joe

Joe I may be interested in some of this 4x2.5mm cable you have, can you give me a price per metre if you do have some lying about. Looking for 14m. Ie 2 x 7m runs.

    TIA.

Maybe I was lucky but I was able to get my hands on the blue series 4 core 4mm cable from maplins. It is a quality cable that looks very impressive. It is very easy to work with and is very flexible and the sound quality is superior to QED SA.

Joe I notice you are from Edinburgh. If I need to purchase more Van Damme cable do you actually sell this stuff. As I dont believe in using credit and debit cards I like to pay with old fashioned cash. If you have a shop where you sell this stuff I would be interested.

    Thanks

You can click through to our web site if you click on the bottom line of my signature.

We've been using and supplying VanDamme cables for about ten years and go through kilometres of the stuff on Home Theatre and AV installs.

I don't have enough time to actually get every VanDamme cable on our site so anything you don't see please do shout.

    Best regards

    Joe

PS Though of course we wont be supplying anything that can be used as a noose to anyone in the vicinity of Easter Road this weekend :)

The cable is that thick joe that it could be used for that, but its not over until the fat lady sings.

I am aware Joe that it isnt too expensive but is there any other reason you use this and are your customers with high end equipment happy with the Van Damme cables. I have heard they also do interconnects and other home cinema cables , is this true and are they any good.

Ah, so the difference between the blue and black is the robustness of the casing - that's one mystery solved.
Gerbilly - did you get the cable from a maplins shop or catalogue? Actually I have just discovered that the van damme importers (i think that's what it is), who also sell the cable to the public, is quite close to where i work so i might just give them a phone about the 4x4mm. Or 2x4mm and jump it. But why is cable jumping better than the solid jumpers that come as standard with my B&Ws?

The solid jumpers are usually just cheap pressed brass that has been gold plated. A decent piece of cable should be better although the differences are still questionable.

    Hello all

beem - there's more to it than just the outer jacket; for example the Blue Series 2x2.5mm is made up of 147x0.15mm strands and the Black Series 2x2.5mm has 50x0.25mm strands.

gerbilly - the VanDamme cables are used in all sorts of Production, Post Production and Broadcast applications along with a huge variety of AV and Home Theatre installations.

The only criticism you can throw at the standard range of pre terminated cables (which are exceptionally well priced) being they don't use some of the more exotic connectors many folk in the Home Theatre market prefer; easily remedied by ordering custom made cables with your connector of choice.

Ordering Custom cables doesn't significantly alter the overall good value these cables offer - you simply pay extra for any exotic connectors you fancy; the cable and labour is usually charged at the same rate.

The VanDamme catalogue runs to some four hundred pages of cables and accessories so pretty much every cable you would ever require is either in there or can be assembled from the components included in the catalogue.

We use these cables on all manner of installs and get great results and feedback from the many customers we supply them too - that includes some with pretty exotic HiFi and AV gear.

    Best regards

    Joe

PS I think the boys in Blue have the tougher job on Saturday ;)

    Hello both

Yes the Bhoys definitely weren't 'on song' yesterday.

I think we'll be having a 'Summer Sale' over at Parkhead - though I'm not sure how much is in the biscuit tin for new players!!!

Hopefully we'll at least grab a consolation prize next weekend.

The have a part spool of Van damme Black Series 4x2.5mm (268-542-000) if anyone is interested... It has an 'anti-kink' jacket which actually makes it very flexible for it's size...
