Do you celebrate?
If so how?
Or do you believe it is little more than cynical consumerism?
But even if you do does keeping the better half happy, a person who is totally sold on the whole Valentine's day celebration that you need to bite the bullet and do the 'right' thing?

Yep. Total farce of a day. And that was when I wasn't single!

I'm free though this year, so I'm going the cinema to watch Parasite, then I'm bringing out the Kraken rum after to watch something fabulously un-romantic like The Exorcist or Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The money I've wasted over the years, I don't even want to think about it. I am a fool

This indicates what Valentine's Day is all about:

"Spending on Valentine's Day reached around £853m last year, up 7.8% on 2018 figures, according to the research firm Savvy. And unsurprisingly retailers are looking to cash in again this year."

I often buy my better half flowers and we take each other out for meals perhaps 3 or 4 x per month, so don't need a commercialised day to tell me to do so.
If you cant show someone you love them the other 364 days of the year then doing so on a day you are 'expected to' is not very heartfelt in any case.

Having said that, my wife likes this sort of thing and we are going to stay in tonight, have a nice meal and bottle of something (like we do every week) and if I get lucky I am all for it.

No chance of me ‘getting lucky’ tonight, as I’m working.

But I have just made my wife breakfast in bed (as I always do when she’s on a work day); but on the tray, there was also a card to ‘my beautiful wife’, and a box of chocolates. It may be commercialised, but as most people know that are in long term relationship, it takes a bit of effort to keep them alive - I’d quite like to reach our 25th wedding anniversary together later this year!

No flowers - as a keen gardener, she prefers cutting her own when in season - the only exception being orchids, which I usually pick up from the Far East. Though on this next trip, she’s told me to stay away from the flower market, due the Coronavirus outbreak.

We generally just cook a nice meal together and then errr... Netflix and chill...

This year we're off to the cinema as she wants to see Emma. We have one of the double love seats booked and will be smuggling in booze and chocolate, so it should be a fun night 😁

Consumerism at its modern day best IMO. Who needs to go out and spend a fortune like some retailers try and make you believe you need to.

15 years together and my other half is getting a card, a bunch of flowers (not the specially made up / marked up Valentines ones), a nice bottle of red wine - as I know she has had a stressful week at work - and a box of matchmakers. She'll be more than happy with those.

We used to go out when courting etc, kids now so, I think it is all a lot of over the top with how retailers are with it all but its same for any event now.
We usually get in dine meal deal, this year got Tomahawk steak from M&S to share!

Lunch in the best steakhouse in Bangkok, a little change from £90.
I thought I would post an amusing image of a Ladyboy but I must warn you now do not google ladyboy images as they really are not suitable for a family forum.

We're just having a meal in with my daughter's. They're only young so making a fuss for them.
Sort of of incorporating the day into a loving family event instead.

Bought the wife a card and a bar of the new M&Ms Peanut chocolate.

That'll do. Nice to have an excuse to celebrate something - It's cost me £4, plus I'll cook a nice meal.

She gets a card.

will be a typical Friday night for me - yoga, then getting hammered on rum / gin...

may go away to a hotel tomorrow night tho :)

She gets a card.

I'll try and remember to buy one after work - last year she got me one saying she really liked me (we've been together over 7 years) so progress..? she probably won't even bother this year...

I do agree that it is mostly rubbish and that its forced on people to buy tatt for their other halves, but at the same time, I always buy a card and flowers for the wifey (this year being no exception!) !

I did receive a lovely gift in the post this morning though. Jury Summons for April.

The wife also got a nice surprise in the post. An invitation for a smear test.

Happy Valentines Day.

It's just another day for me but because of the meaning for her it's a card and a £15 limit on gifts (otherwise she'd probably spend a crazy amount).

We got the keys to our home 34 years ago today, Solicitor did say you'll never have to buy each other Valentine's prezzies now.
