V+ Samsung HD Box Connections

Hi

My V+ HD Box is connected to my Sony TV using the HDMI cable and I'd like to have the V+ also go through my Sony Home Theatre to get the best 5.1sound and performance from the V+.

I'm using an optical cable between the TV which has an optical OUT and the Home Theatre has an optical IN.

Neither of the SCART or the Optical connections on the V+ are being used at present so, what are my options here?

The V+ only outputs Dolby Digital via its optical and/or HDMI output so you'll need to use one of these to get DD 5.1. If your TV has Dolby Digital decoding capabilities and has the ability to passthrough DD 5.1 then you could simply connect your TV's optical output to your AV system and passthrough the audio from the V+ to the AV system via your TV, but if the TV lacks Dolby Digital decoding and/or cannot passthrough multichannel discrete audio then you'll need to make a direct connection from the V+ to the AV system via optical or HDMI. Your Sony TV has Dolby Digital decoding and is able to passthrough the 5.1 audio. Connect your V+ to your TV via HDMI and turn HDMI override on in the V+ box's settings. Now connect the TV's optical output to your Sony BDV-E370.

Also note that you must turn HDMI audio override ON in the V+ box's settings in order to get Dolby Digital output.

Hi dante01

Thanks for the info detailed above.

Your recommendations were to connect the V+ box to my TV using HDMI AND, my TV to the Sony BDV-E370 using an optical cable but, as already stated in my original post, I already have those connections made and, when I went into the V+ settings to turn HDMI audio override ON, I got an 'on-screen' warning message saying that, before choosing "YES" to turn on 'audio override', please ensure that your V+ Box is connected to the AMP (E370) and speakers via optical cable?

Back to you.

Yes, you get the warning regardless of what you have attached to the amp and regardless of the capabilities of the attached AV amp or TV. Just turn HDMI audio override ON. Your TV is capable of handling Dolby Digital 5.1 audio and can passthrough 5.1 audio via its optical output. Do ensure to configure your TV so that its optical output is activated though.

Just as a passing comment............

in theory this pass through option is just the same as connecting it directly to the amp, well cable wise anyway........

Would there be any specific advantage to running it through the TV......apart from only using one optical input on the amp for as many HDMI inputs the TV can support....

Just a matter of less cables ;)

My TV has the DD decoding abilities and can passthrough 5.1 audio, but I choose to connect my STB directly to my AV amp via HDMI. My AV amp is also my AV switch and I permanently use it for all audio associated with the TV so I don't actually need to send any audio to my TV because I never use its own internal speakers. My AV amp deals with the audio while passing through the video signal to my TV. There are various ways of doing things, some born of necessity and others simply due to personal preference.
