I have got a shed load of old V.H.S. (pre-recorded & taped) that I never watch nowadays. I would like to get rid it all. Is there someone who will recycle these items or should I just take them down the local facility to go for landfill?
I would like to do it the most eco-friendly if possible.

    Hi Mattlad,

Donate the lot to a local charity shop. Failing that, flog the lot on the AVForums, or via e-Bay (if you have any rareities, pre-VRA tapes, or other unusual titles in your collection).

try freecycle. basically a community theres various ones that cover the whole of the UK, where you list what you dont want anymore and someone will come and take it off you if they want it,

    Hi mattlad,

My local charity shop was happy to accept pre-recorded VHS tapes but wouldn't accept those that had been home recorded although some had hardly been used. I had a few hundred of those, and after hawking them around other charity shops, and refused, we took them to our local dump.

The men working at the dump had an improvised table set up there. Anything they thought was worth selling they would put on this for sale to the public.

They were delighted to take my tapes and I took some more on later days. They said they went like hot cakes. On this table were an amazing array of goods, a pair of skis, etc.

Last year my mother in law brought back from holiday in Africa a sun hat made completely from video tape woven like raffia. Very effective and very clever.

I would think they were perks of the job. No altruistic motives there!

I like the sound of that Bob. A black glossy sun hat sounds quite glamorous. Unfortunately it would be beyond my sewing capabilities!

the charity shops dont accept unwrapped blank tapes in case they contain unsuitable material.......

best bet is to sell them on here or e-bay or thru Loot or another classified ads paper.....

    just dont burn them....heh

I put all mine in boxes and stored them in the attic...they'll be down the Antiques Roadshow when I'm 80...so I can retire!

Complementary about your mother in law! Does she often look to see what you have posted?

Just write the word "Porn" on them, and take them down the car boot. They'll fly :)
