    Just a quick question:-

Looking at buying the brilliant Usual Suspects - been waiting a while for it to arrive, and finally it is.

Just wondering whether there is any difference between Region 1 and Region 2 versions (other than the fact that Region 1 is out at the moment)
They both seem to have the same extras to me but I can't be sure.

    What do you guys think?

When you say "R1 is out at the moment" are you referring to the MGM release of the PolyGram original which is still on release, or the Special Edition (again from MGM)which isn't officiallydue 'til April 2nd but Movietyme appear to have in stock now?

    AdtheBad,

You are both right! It was not due until the 2nd April - I guess Play got some early!?! (Or have made a mistake!)

Personally I think I will go for the region 2 - I am big on packaging myself and the region 2 MGM edition is a foldout cardboard digipack same as Terminator & Raging Bull.
    Region 2 picture:

Not sure what type of case the R1 is in?

    HI,

Well, now I'm even more confused!

DVD Compare says that the R2 Special Edition has an Amaray Case. Yet other sites, mention cardboard-style foldout packaging!

Also, on DVD Compare, they say that the R2 Special Edition doesn't have the 4:3 version on the DVD (not that that's important), but that picture quality may be affected!

Surely if the R2 Special Edition does NOT have to make space for an extra version of the film, and it's in PAL format, then surely the picture quality should be superior to the R1 edition?!

Can anyone give myself and everyone else a definitive answer?!

Yes it is definitely in a cardboard digipack (most MGM special eds are in region 2). Picture is available at R2 Project (see above).

Region 2 versions usually have less space available anyway because they have to carry multiple languages (eg french, spanish etc).

I am sure the quality differences between the two are negligable (apart from the superior R2 packaging).

Just got this on R1 from good ol' Movietyme. It's picture quality does not seem to be affected by having two versions on one side. It looks better than it ever did, and I can now throw my VHS special edition away!

Packaging is horrible though, cheapo plastic amaray case with a nasty clear sleeve. A clear case of cardboard being better here.

Maybe it is better to wait until R2, but I had this on preorder since Feb!

Is the region 1 a 2 disc set or just a single disc?

Thanks a lot for your thoughts and inside information!

I think that all in all - if only for the aesthetic value of the packaging - I'll be waiting the short time for the region 2 version.

Its a single disk but 2 sided like most MGM R1 titles eg Terminator, Mad Max
The film is on one side (P&S and W/S on separate layers) with the
    extras on the other side.

R2 is 2 disks with 1 for the film and the other the extras.
