Using USB on Yamaha RX-V3800

Hi

Not sure if I'm being a complete numpty here but having read the manual and the section on connecting a USB drive is keeps talking about a GUI but whenever I connect a drive (I've tried various from normal hard disk drives to MP3 players) I can't seem to find out where I'm meant to navigate the hard drive.

I pressed the menu on the remote but that gave me nothing, I know I'm missing something obvious but can't work out what :-(

Help appreciated, ta.

Assuming that you've selected USB as the input (as that's the easy bit), you need set the "scroll wheel" on the right hand side of the remote to "Source", and then Menu, Up, Down, Left, Right etc should start working. It should work with most MP3 players and USB sticks (but not USB hard drives, according to the manual)

Is the amp connected to the TV via HDMI? If so you also need to run a s-video, video or component cable from the video out on the amp to the tv so you can access the GUI (on screen menu) on your television. As mentioned select 'source' on the right hand side of the remote.

Cheers, turns out the one thing I did have right was the "numpty" part! When reading I saw the select source bit but just skimmed that and assumed it meant select USB as the source, d'oh.

Anyway all works now :)

Oh and it does seem to work over HDMI to my tv :)

Hi,

Can you connect a USB powered external hard drive to the RX-V3800? And can it only be operated through the GUI, or is it possible to use just the LCD screen?

Thanks! :smashin:

Well I tried to connect my WD Passport and if failed but I suspect that's cos it's NTFS.

I then connected my H340 IRiver which is essentially an external HD and FAT32 and that seemed fine, navigated using the Yamaha GUI, but it does have a battery while the Passport doesn't so can't say 100% that the Passport running FAT32 would work.
