I have just re-set up my system ( denon avca1se + KEF thx speakers for ex surround)using a sound meter I bought in the US.
I had previously done it by ear and whilst the main speakers were pretty close to 75db the surrounds and backs were a bit higher and needed adjusting down. The sub ,however, was way over ,and having wound it down a chunk ,I find the overall performance much improved so I thought I would post my results.

I totally agree. I did the same about 18 months ago and the difference was staggering. You end with a much more cohesive overall sound rather than a complete mish mash. That's my technical version of it anyway.
