I am looking at putting a HTPC in the lounge, however all my other PCs are in another room along with my router / modem.

Basically I want to connect the PC in the lounge to the router without having to buy a whole load of wifi stuff.

The other room has a phone cable coming into it from the master phone socket elsewhere in the house. This socket is also wired with another cable that then goes to the lounge where it terminates. I no longer need a phone connection in the lounge so was wondering if I could use this cable for a PC network by a) changing the socket in the lounge and b) disconnecting from the phone socket in the other room and wriing it to a seperate socket.

Would this work, or do I need to put a new cat 5 cable in its place ?
