As I've gone back to HTPC again, I decided to try Girder so that the PC would be as easy to use as a standalone player. I built a little IR reciever and put it onto a 19ft screened cable (19ft seems to be the limit - any longer and it doesn't work) so that the reciever is in front of the seating position (HTPC is behind). I then downloaded a Girder file for PowerDVD XP and used Girder to relearn all the commands from my Samy remote - although I've known about Girder for ages, I've never used it, so rather than learn how to program it, I cheated and borrowed someone elses. I also remapped the number buttons as mouse movements and left/right clicks so that I can do all the other things on the PC without having to have a mouse set up. I have an IR keyboard just in case I need to type anything, but generaly it isn't needed. So now I can do most operations just by using a standard remote control, and it's just like using a normal player. Just thought I'd mention it in case somebody else wanted to do a similar thing. What do you existing Girder users use as your remote control? Anything else I can be doing to make things easier? Cheers. Gary.
