    Hi,

Given that the next gen Playstation will have HD output and also the new SKY box will a have HD output, how would you connect multiple HD sources to one of the latest LCD Projectors such as the Sanyo PLV-Z4 ?.

Can you get an AV receiver that upsacles to HDMI rather than Component ?.

    Cheers

    Hello DORSETAV

Your mixing connectivity standards, video signal formats and video processing into one 'requirement'. :)

HD sources are likely to include HDMI encrypted outputs and a stand alone HDMI or DVI with HDCP switcher will be required if you have multiple sources and only one HDMI or DVI (with HDCP) Input on your Projector.

AV Receivers with HDMI switching are starting to make an appearance - though still quite rare.

HDMI or DVI (with HDCP) switchers will simply switch the sources devices with no additional processing - plenty of these devices are already available!

    See http://www.zektor.com/dvs51/index.html and http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=3055

The current batch of AV Receivers that include HDMI switching tend to keep the Digital and Analogue sources separated - though some will/do offer Analogue to Digital conversion to give you a single HDMI Output for all your sources; though not sure if any give you any form of Video Up-conversion on both Analogue and Digital source signals.

Another option is to consider adding an external Video Processor from the likes of Lumagen or DVDO to your set up - these devices have Analogue and Digital Inputs and can process both SD and HD sources and give you all manner of control over each source signal and even multiple Output signals (to accommodate both 50Hz and 60Hz sources).

    See http://www.lumagen.com/testindex.php?module=products and http://www.dvdo.com

    Best regards

    Joe

    Joe,
Thanks for the comprehensive reply.................I was going to buy a Yamaha RX657 reciever which does full component uplift, and hence only have 1 cable going ito the ceiling and across to the projector. Then i thought this will be a waste of money once the Ps3 & HD SKY + boxes come out in Q1 next year.
