I was given my first satellite receiver yesterday which I can report is up and running showing Freesat on a very crap Sony TV. I have an LG IPS225 monitor with HDMI, VGA and DVI inputs which I'd like to use instead. I've tried a scart to VGA lead but it won't work. I'd rather use HDMI anyhow....

Can anyone advise me on the best course of action, please? The Sky Digibox (SD) has scart outputs only.

Thanks in advance for any help.

There's some confusion here. Sky and Freesat are two different ways of receiving satellite TV. Each has its own machines so yours is presumably Sky, not Freesat, and is showing the free channels and the Sky EPG. There isn't any practical way of connecting a Scart output to a HDMI input and the best thing to do would be to get another satellite receiver with a HDMI output. Either a Sky or a Freesat machine could cost only very little but remember that when the video is going to the monitor you'll need some way of getting the audio as well.
This fixed thread by forum admin is immediately above this one: http://www.avforums.com/forums/sate...ere-youll-get-better-answers-right-forum.html but as this might be about either it had better stay here for the time being. :)

Straight Scart to VGA leads are not meant for this purpose, you need a converter box. Converters are available to go from Scart to VGA or Scart to HDMI but it'd cheaper to replace the Sky receiver with a second hand HD version. If you do get an HD Sky box you'll have to ensure the monitor is HDCP compliant.

Thanks for the quick replies. I think I need to educate myself! I think a cheap TV is the best option for the time being!

Another satellite machine could be even cheaper, next to nothing in fact.

Yes, you're all right. My monitor is HDCP compliant apparently so a Sky HD receiver look the cheapest and best way to go. Thanks for the advice, all.

To conclude!

I now have a second-hand Sky+HD box, £20 from eBay including delivery, playing the free Sky 1080i HD content through the HDMI output on my LG IPS225 monitor. Bargain! Thanks, guys!
