Using ATI HDTV Adapter with DVD

I'm using a component video output (interlaced) from a Sony RDR-GX500 DVD recorder and connecting to a Thomson 27LCDBO3B TV (via YCbCr input).

The Thomson has a DVI input and previous threads have indicated that it can display HD signals from 480i & 480p to 1080i.

The question I have is to whether I would be able to get a superior picture display by using the ATi adapter (see here for details http://www.ati.com/products/hdtvadapter/ ) set to 480i (or higher) and utilising the DVI input?
