Helping a friend who has just bought an ALBA DVD 55 player for €30.00 and he is using a 28" 4:3 TV I am playing Training Day and want to fill the screen, he can't stand the black bars top and bottom, so I set dvd to wide and press zoom x 2 and voila the screen is full but I can't get the zoom symbol off the screen ie it just stays on and is a bind.

Any secret button pushes to get it to clear or could it be a faulty DVD player?

...and voila, the screen is full, but a proportion of the movie image is missing..........and the rest is distorted.

And that's all fine and dandy, but the 'zoom' logo is bothersome!

Oh, well, there's no accounting for taste.

(Sorry, I don't have an answer. Even if I did, I'd be hesitant to share it).

Except for a widescreen TV or Pan & Scam editions of DVDs.

You could always suggest VHS as a comprehensive source of fullscreen material.......no nasty black bars, and no 'zoom' icon. Perfect.

Some people simply do not mix with any new technology.
