USA mains is 120V (sometimes called 110V) 60 Hz. UK mains is 240V, 50Hz.
Having applied 240V to the 120V input your friend might have just blown internal fuses if lucky. Equally likely is that some of the power supply components may be damaged and have failed / may fail in the near future due to the over-voltage applied.
The AVR is rated at 600 Watts consumption so you would need a voltage convereter rated at a minimum of 1000 Watts to work adequately... Something like this
CM1000/A/US | Carroll & Meynell 1kVA Autotransformer, 230V ac Primary, 114.2V ac Secondary, Bobbin Core | RS Components
So if it works and doesn't need repairing, you can replace any damaged fuses, then it may work?
BUT USA audio kit has other differences to European units (and unless you can alter the settings in the setup menus may be an issue?). The main one is that the FM pre-emphasis is different. AM tuner channel spacing is also different but most tuners now step in 1kHz increments to avoid the issue.
